There’s no such thing as Vampires… right?
That’s what Jake’s good friend Ariana thought. So why did somebody drop a body covered with bites at the hospital where she works? And why is she being followed by creepy dudes?
Jake wants answers, and he’s going to get them no matter the cost. He’s also going to learn that, “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Will Jake Muller take up a sword in this spiritual battle?

Here’s an interesting way to start a review! This audio drama tells about people who bite others and drink their blood. Now before you think “Ew!” or something likewise expressing your disgust and decide right now to not purchase this audio adventure, let me ask some questions. Is what I just said disgusting? Yes! Terrible? Absolutely! But this is something that happens often in some places, like Chicago and New Orleans, all the time! So what should a Christian have to do with these things? Now if someone told me what I just told you and nothing else, I absolutely would have steered clear of this production. But this audio production comes from a Christian perspective. It does not at all glorify those disgusting things. It makes you aware of them. It does not seek to needlessly horrify you, like a horror movie would. (I personally would not even include this audio drama in the horror genre.) It makes you aware, without overwhelming you. It is definitely not for a younger audience. But if you are an older teen or up, I highly recommend this audio drama! It informed me about some of the atrocities that happen in underground areas of America. Do not expect a warm, fuzzy story that you can fall asleep listening to. Instead, expect a very wholesome story that will sometimes leave you feeling uncomfortable (but for good reasons!). The storyline is also compelling. It has some action (not as much as the previous Jake Muller), and it will be sure to entertain you. Many parts are dark, but it isn’t that way the whole way through. And in many of the scenes where the situation is dark with sin and hopelessness, the light of Christ penetrates the darkness. A girl is sick and dying. She is terrified. She has been without God her whole life. The scene is dark, but the Gospel is shared. It’s a very emotional scene. And the story does have some humor to break up some of the dark drama, as well.
Many people think that Christian entertainment shouldn’t discuss such disturbing topics. But the Bible itself contains many stories about disturbing occurrences! (Just read the book of Judges, especially the last few chapters.) Simply avoiding disturbing topics altogether for the fact that they are disturbing is really just ignoring the truth. Does this mean the Jake Muller Adventures should have gone all out with the grossness? No! I believe Christians should be careful about what they let in their heads. This audio drama informs. It is not over-the-top in grossness or preachiness. (Speaking of preachy, all of this is just my humble opinion! 😅)
Now what is over-the-top is the sound design quality. It is absolutely fantastic! It sounds so good and realistic, without being distracting. However, there was one part where the character Ariana heard a quiet noise in the house she was staying in. She reacted and went to investigate. The only problem is, the sound was so vague and quiet that I didn’t really hear it! And I had earbuds on! I was slightly confused at first, but it honestly didn’t bother me that much. It was a very engaging, edge-of-your-seat type of scene! Other than that, the sound design was phenomenal.
The only problem I had with the music score was in the first scene. Jake was talking with Legio. Quick buildup music stings interfered with a few of the lines. It was very cool how the music followed along with the mood of the conversation; I just wish the stings could have finished before the next speaker started talking. Otherwise, the music score was so fabulous, I hardly even noticed it was there. It worked very well with the story.
The story has many memorable lines. The acting has also improved from pretty good to 99% perfect! My main issue was with Ariana. Some of the ways she delivered her lines felt off to me. There’s one scene where someone is tying her to a table. The man tying her in making all kinds of effort noises while the tying and table moving sound effects were going—Ariana’s just talking. She doesn’t make many verbal struggle sounds, and it just doesn’t sound quite believable. However, this type of thing wasn’t extremely distracting elsewhere, and acting was absolutely fabulous elsewhere!
If you are older and can handle learning about some of the demonic things that sinful humans have unleashed in this world, I cannot recommend this audio drama enough. It is highly entertaining and told in a tasteful way. It does involve disturbing and gross topics, but it does very well at not overwhelming or overloading your sensibilities while still teaching!
